Level I

  • May be issued to a person who has achieved at least 75% success on an adjuster license examination prescribed by the superintendent, or has equivalent qualifications acceptable to the superintendent.
  • Shall work only on behalf of his or her sponsor or the sponsor’s employer.
  • During the first year following issue of the initial license may assess claims or engage in negotiation of an insurance settlement only under supervision of a person holding an adjuster Level III or IV license, who shall review and countersign a claim report or settlement offer submitted by the Level I licensee.

In addition a Level I adjuster must:

  • Work a minimum of 21 hours per week as an adjuster and be sponsored by a licenced Level IV Adjuster;
  • Work only on behalf of their sponsor or the sponsor’s employer
  • Work under the supervision of a Level III or IV adjuster who shall review and countersign any claim report or settlement offer submitted by the Level I licencee; and
  • Complete the requirements to qualify for an Level II adjuster licence and apply for a Level II licence within a three-year period immediately following issue of the initial adjuster’s Level I licence.

  • Equivalent qualifications acceptable to the superintendent

Level II

  • Shall complete the requirements to qualify for an adjuster Level II license and apply for a Level II license within the 3-year period immediately following issue of the initial adjuster Level I license. Failure to comply with this section shall be cause for suspension, revocation or cancellation of the Level I license.
  • May be issued to a person who has held an adjuster Level I license for at least 2 years.
  • Must have successfully completed all of the following courses of the Insurance Institute of Canada:
    • C12 (Insurance on Property)
    • C14 (Automobile Insurance — Part I)
    • C110 (Essentials of Loss Adjusting)
      or
    • C17 (Claims I)
      or
    • Has equivalent qualifications acceptable to the superintendent

Level III

  • May be issued to a person who has held an adjuster Level II license for at least one year.
  • Must have successfully completed, within the 3 year period immediately preceding application, all of the following courses of the Insurance Institute of Canada:
    • C13 (Insurance Against Liability)
    • C33 (Insurance on Property – Part II)
    • C46 (Claims II)
    • C43 (Casualty Covers)
      or
    • Has equivalent qualifications acceptable to the superintendent.

Level IV

  • May be issued to a person who has held an adjuster Level III license for at least one year
  • Must have successfully completed, within the 7 year period immediately preceding application, the A.I.I.C. program of the Insurance Institute of Canada, including all of the following courses:
    • C32 (Bodily Injury Claims)
    • C16 (Insurance Organization, Accounts and Finance)
    • 2 optional courses
      or
    • Has equivalent qualifications acceptable to the superintendent.

Sponsorship Limit

A person holding an adjuster Level IV license shall not sponsor more than 5 persons holding adjuster Level I licenses.
