Seminar on BC’s New No-Fault Auto Regime

Seminar Description: Stay up-to-date with the new changes to BC’s auto regime which came into effect on May 1, 2021. Presenters from Dolden Wallace Folick will provide an overview of the new auto regime and focus in particular to the removal of the right to sue for motor vehicle accidents which occur in BC (with limited exceptions), the increased limits to Med/Rehab and Income Replacement Benefits, new benefits provided under the regulations, impact on ICBC’s right to subrogate, and dispute resolution mechanisms to resolve claim disputes. This seminar is the first of a three-part webinar series presented by CIAA/Dolden in 2021 to bring insurance claims adjusters who handle out-of-province claims up-to-date on BC’s new no-fault auto regime.

Seminar Objectives:

  • Introduction to new “Enhanced Care” auto regime
  • Identify who pays accident benefits when an out-of-province plated vehicle is involved in an accident in BC
  • Understand the impact of amendments to the Insurance (Vehicle) Act prohibiting or limiting the right to sue
  • Learn about the increased Med/Rehab limits and new benefits available under the Enhanced Accident Benefits Regulation
  • Learn about the new benefits and increased limits to existing benefits under new regulations passed by the BC provincial government
  • Consider the impact of ICBC’s right of subrogation under the new auto regime
  • Explore the dispute resolution framework to resolve auto claim disputes

CE Hours: 1.5 accredited CE hours for BC; SK; MB.  Pending AIC approval in Alberta.
