IFAA Accreditation
The International Federation of Adjusting Associations, (IFAA), is a
global association of which CIAA is a member. The IFAA actively
promotes the role of its member Loss Adjusting
Institutes/Associations and their Members to a worldwide audience.
The IFAA has a strict Code of Professional Conduct, adhered to by
its nine member Institutes/Associations, as follows:

CANADA – CIAA – www.ciaa-adjusters.ca
EUROPE – FUEDI – www.fuedi.org
JAPAN – LAAJ – www.kantei.gr.jp

NIGERIA – ILAN – www.cuctech.com/equitytrust
S. AFRICA – ILASA – www.ilasa.org.za
UK – CILA – www.cila.co.uk
US – NAIIA – www.naiia.com
The high adjusting standards both in education and experience, which
are promoted within the IFAA, are in a large part due to the rigid
standards enforced by the member associations.
The IFAA will be launching an Accreditation Program for individual
members who are members of one of IFAA’s nine member
Institutes/Associations on April 1, 2005.
The IFAA has agreed to accept as “Fellows” (the title of an IFAA
accredited claims person) any person who has the written support of
an IFAA member (e.g. CIAA) who has qualified to a certain standard
within their own Institute/Association.
CIAA’s category of membership, “Licentiate” in adjusting meets the
required standards for the accreditation and is outlined in our
constitution as follows:
(a) LICENTIATE IN ADJUSTING: Membership as Licentiate in Adjusting
is open to licensed individuals who are associated with or employed
by a Member Firm.
Every adjuster and investigator employed by a Member Firm shall be
required to qualify as a Licentiate in Adjusting by one of the
following methods, and shall satisfy the Executive Committee that --
i.being duly licensed and having had not less than five (5) years
experience in the adjustment of loss of which two (2) years will
have been as an independent adjuster, consecutively and immediately
preceding the date of his application, he has earned his
Associateship with the Insurance Institute of Canada, or has
successfully completed such other course of study prescribed by the
Qualifications Committee and has complied with the other
requirements of the Association, or
ii.being in professional practice as a licensed adjuster, he has had
not less than ten (10) years practical experience in the adjustment
of loss, consecutively and immediately preceding the date of his
application of which two (2) years will have been as an independent
adjuster and, being a Principal or a Senior of his firm, his
election would in the opinion of the Executive Committee be of
benefit to the Association.
Advantages to obtaining the global accreditation include
1. International recognition of competency and professional
standards.
2. Advance standing for entry to member Associations.
3. Inclusion in international listings; e.g. Lloyd’s List website.
4. Exchange of information.
Fellowship of the IFAA would incur an annual fee of $65.00, Canadian
funds. The IFAA member Institute/Association for administration
costs will retain a portion and the remainder will go to the IFAA.
